On a glorious sunny day at The Stute Stanton 1st XI hosted Castle Donington.
Stanton batted first and Dave Hardy, promoted to opener, got to ten before being out lbw.
This brought in Matt Winfield to join Rich Barnes and they took the total to 48 before Barnes was out for 29. Winfield top sored with 67 before becoming Mattock’s third victim, with spinner Ben Symcox 3-29 as Stanton scored 160-9.
Elks had reduced their opponents to 89-5 but opener Tom Boereboom was still at the crease and he remained immovable as he scored several boundaries to remain 88no as he carried Donington to a five-wicket victory with Tyagi scoring 29*. Captain Ashley Fletcher took 3-51 for the Elks.
l A much weakened 2nd XI fell to defeat at Swarkestone.
Swarkstone were all out for 172, Green top scoring with 78. The wickets were shared between all the Elks bowlers with Dave Riley being the pick with 3 for 34.
The Elks’ batting was the worst so far this season as they were dismissed in 19.4 overs for just 39 as Weeson (5 for 11) and Scarlett (4 for 27) led Swarkstone to an easy victory.
l Sunday saw the seconds face Alvaston & Boulton who racked up 235-6 in a good innings.
Rahimini (6 for 37) was the thorn in Stanton’s reply as they had to make do with a losing draw, finishing as they did on 149-8, Sam Trueman top scoring on 47.
