Sandiacre Town retained the leadership of the Premier League following victory over Alvaston & Boulton in a high-scoring match at The Raygar Arena.
The league leaders were set the stiff task of overhauling A&B’s 254 for 6 but a swift opening stand of 135 between James Chapman (83) and Charlie Ault (86) helped set up a comfortable eight wicket win.
Ault (five sixes, nine fours) was the dominant partner, needing just 75 deliveries to register his superb innings of 86, but A&B’s suffering was not over as Matt Gouldstone (44*) joined Chapman to add a further 74 runs in similar fashion.
Chapman (two sixes, 11 fours) was finally caught off the bowling of Colin Griggs but with the score on 209 Sandiacre were almost home and dry.
Chesney Hughes (30*) joined Gouldstone and wasted no time in bringing up the win in the 42nd over, cracking two sixes and two fours along the way.
Earlier in the day Ryan McFadyean had grabbed the wicket of Chris McIlroy with just 28 runs on the board but A&B responded positively through Steve Stubbings (39) and Waseem Mohammed (68).
They added 51 patient runs but it was Hassan Adnan (56) who gave the innings the boost it needed and the home side were able to set a challenging target despite wickets for Dan Wheeldon (2-75).
