Reed takes top prize at Trinity's sell-out boxing show
Rising star Alex Reed took the eye, and the top prize, at the latest promotion by the Ilkeston-based Trinity Amateur Boxing Club in front of a sell-out crowd at the Festival Inn in Trowell.
Reed faced Derbyshire’s light-heavyweight belt holder Jack Hutsby, of Aldercar and Langley Mill, and took a split-decision verdict to win the Ralph Smitheringale Trophy after an outstanding fight that landed the bout-of-the-night award.
Trinity captain Kyle Hughes was another popular winner, gaining a unanimous decision after outboxing and out-hustling talented Coventry fighter Lewis Rafferty in the top-of-the-bill middlewight bout.
The club’s younger stars also showed promise, with Shay Molloy beating Dronfield opponent Edward Shaw, Alex Testro overcoming Ellis Orchard, of Oldham, and welterweight Sam Skidmore making a successful debut.
