The delay to the start of Ilkeston FC’s season will continue after their match at Stourbridge on Saturday was postponed.

It is the third game so far which has been called off due to Ilkeston’s suspension from Evo-Stik Premier League action due to what league officials described as a ‘breach in rules and regulations’.

Following the postponement, Ilkeston FC released a statement explaining that the ongoing situation that caused their suspension is still in the process of being resolved.

The statement read: “Since Ilkeston FC’s suspension from the Evo-Stik NPL last week, work has been going on behind the scenes to ensure that the matter is rectified as soon as possible.

“The position that Ilkeston FC now finds itself in is a very frustrating one, firstly for the club, because the problem is not of our making and secondly for our fans, as they see a lack of information coming from inside the New Manor Ground as leading to bigger problems, which is certainly not the case.

“The situation is a very tricky one for IFC, and the club and its officials are bound by legal issues from going into any detail on the current situation.”

Ilkeston FC chief executive Nigel Harrop said: “I understand the fans’ frustrations on the lack of any clear information from Ilkeston FC on the matter.

“Our lawyers have made it clear to me that if I were to give the details of the unfortunate situation that we find ourselves in, I could be the subject of legal proceedings. On this advice, I feel that for now, it is best left to the lawyers to deal with the situation and hope that this can be sorted out to everyone’s satisfaction as soon as possible, so we can get back to playing football, which is what the club and fans want more than anything.

“Officials of the Evo-Stik NPL informed us this morning that this Saturday’s game has been called off.

“It’s disappointing that this decision has been taken so early, as there are still two full days of trading between now and Saturday and our legal team are working as hard as they can to bring this to an end.”

The next scheduled Ilkeston fixture is a home game with Spennymoor Town next Tuesday night.
