Long Eaton Swimming Club’s junior members have been in action over the last two weeks, giving all the swimmers an opportunity to experience team competition.
For the second round of the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Junior League, the A Team were at Bramcote where the team battled hard all night, leading the points table up to half way through the gala but slipping to third place by the end.
There were wins in the 12-year-old events for Katie Sloan and Matthew Cross who won all their individual events.
In the nine-year-old events, Matthew Luscombe took the freestyle and Summer Simpson the butterfly, and, for the ten-year-olds, Madison Walker won the backstroke.
The 12 year old girls relay team of Katie, Esther Halford, Bethany Sharples and Mollie Daniels took both the freestyle and medley relays for their age group, with the 11-and-under boys’ team of Jack Robinson, Morgan Pryce, Lewis Tipping and Oliver Dodic winning their freestyle event.
Final points scores were: Bramcote 215, Worksop 195, Long Eaton A 193, Rykneld 139, Eckington 115, Matlock 108.
The B team were at Sutton-in-Ashfield for their gala and although finishing in sixth, with Eliza Walker the only individual winner in the nine-year-old butterfly event, valuable racing experience was again gained by all the swimmers.
A novice gala at Repton School gave a team of young and relatively inexperienced swimmers an opportunity to compete against other neighbouring junior teams.
Winners on the night were Bradley Evans, Jack Shaw and Billy Seth Grimmett as Long Eaton came second overall behind hosts Swadlincote A.
