Elks fall to home defeat

Stanton Elks CC

Stanton entertained Mickleover at the Stute and were asked to bat first.

Elks got off to a bad start losing opener Scott Law in the first over, but Richard Barnes (22) and Tom Windley (34) then set about the Mickleover bowlers before Barnes was out with the score at 44.

Ashley Fletcher (34) and Marc Bostock (30) both got starts but couldn’t carry on to get a decent score as Mickleover’s bowlers, led by Jamie Holloway with 3-38, kept the Elks to 178-8.

Mickleover lost opener Leon Nixon early on but Holloway scored 33 before he was caught one-handed on the boundary by Paul Cook off Marc Bostock as he attempted another big shot.

However Mickleover’s youngsters Freddy Matthews (59) and Kieran Preston (21*) together with captain Marcus McKay (26) then took Mickleover to a five-wicket victory in the 29th over.

l The second XI travelled to league leaders Hartshorne and were asked to bat first.

Elks were well placed at 100-2 thanks to a partnership between Paul Anderson who scored a fluent 50 and Tom Henshaw’s 30.

However both were dismissed by Ashcroft who finished with 4 for 41 and the remaining Elks batting offered little resistance as they were dismissed for 139.

Hartshorne made light work of the victory target which was reached in 32 overs, with Watson 54 not out and Faulkner 75 not out.
