Erewash Valley Golf Club member Olivia Kelly has added the Association of Colleges Girls Open Golf Championship title to the East Midlands Collegiate Golf Championship Title she acquired back in October.
The Derby College student came out on top in the girls section of the annual AOC Open Golf Championship played over the Torrance and Kittocks courses at the world famous Fairmont St. Andrews resort in Scotland.
Played over two days in testing winds, which gusted up to 50 mph, and in extremely cold temperatures Olivia returned 82 over the Kittocks Course and 79 over the Torrance course for a total of 161.
This gave her a massive 17-shot winning margin over the rest of the field to see her crowned AOC Girls Open Champion.
Olivia said: “ I am really delighted with this win and to add a National Title to the East Midlands Championship I won in October is thrilling.
“My goal for the week was to remain patient and allow my golf to do the talking and it really paid off as I played some solid golf in very testing conditions.”
Fourteen students from Derby College made the journey north of the border to compete in the prestigious AOC Open Golf Championship with Breadsall Priory Golf Club’s Will Painter finishing third in the boys section and the whole team claiming third place in the team competition, seven strokes behind winners Balby College.
Performance Golf Academy Derby programme manager Nigel Furniss commented: “We are pleased with the results from St.Andrews. We witnessed some good performances under very difficult playing conditions and we are delighted for Olivia to have claimed a national title.
“This will give all the players confidence as they prepare for their next major event which will be the AOC Nationals played at Bath Golf Club on March 27 and 28.
