Former Ilkeston FC star Che Adams burst onto the scene in devastating fashion for Sheffield United on Wednesday night - but couldn’t quite steer his new side to Wembley.
Teenager Adams, who Ilkeston sold to United for a six-figure fee in November, came on as a 73rd minute substitute against Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg and within five minutes had sensationally scored his first two Blades goals to level the tie on aggregate.
Sadly for Adams and his teammates, who included another ex-Robin in Kieran Wallace as an unused sub, Christian Eriksen’s late goal sent Spurs to Wembley to face Chelsea in the final on March 1.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, United manager Nigel Clough said: “Everyone’s talking about Che now and hopefully will be for many years to come.
“We’ve been really pleased with him since he came here and he’s still raw with lots of potential, although he needs to learn not to celebrate in the corner when we still need another goal as he did after his first!”
