Ilkeston FC have signed experienced striker Liam Hearn from National League side Lincoln City.
Hearn, 30, has been one of the National League’s most prolific strikers in recent seasons having netted over 100 goals in both the Premier Division with Lincoln and Grimsby Town and prior to that with Alfreton Town in the National League North.
Having begun his career on the local non-league scene with Hucknall Town, Eastwood Town and Chasetown, Hearn has also featured for Mansfield Town, Barrow and Harrogate Town in recent seasons.
Hearn said: “I like the fact that Ilkeston try to do things the right way, bring youngsters through the academy and building from the ground up. At my previous clubs, I’ve always tried to help the youngsters wherever I could and the opportunity to do that at Ilkeston was something that I couldn’t turn down.”
On his decision to drop down two divisions to be at Ilkeston, Hearn added: “Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture in football, I had opportunities to stay in the full-time game and I had other clubs interested in me higher up in non-league. I went to seek advice from two managers who I have the utmost respect for in Adam Murray and Paul Cox. Both of them looked at my options and they both said that coming to Ilkeston FC would be the best move for me.
“Chances like this don’t come along every day and I’m happy to have signed a contract for the coming season.”
