Ilkeston Town have been promoted to the Midland Premier Division following a restructure of the non-league football pyramid.
The Robins finished as runners-up in the MFL Division One with 95 points, but with only one team promoted it was champions Walsall Wood who rose to step five.
However, with widespread restructuring having occurred at steps three and four, the FA’s leagues committee identified openings for retrospective promotions to take place.
For the Robins, it caps a remarkable first season having only been formed three weeks before it began, and chief operating officer Anthony Redwood was thrilled to receive the news.
In a statement issued to supporters, he said: “We are overjoyed at the deserved opportunity to progress, and would like to place on record our thanks to the Football Association, various sub-committees, Laurence Jones and Matt Edkins for recognising the advancement of the club over the past 12 months, together with our achievements to date.
“Together with the vast expansion of the club over the coming months, this marks a monumental day in our short history. We assure you of our continued commitment to progression and will now embark on preparations accordingly for the new campaign.
“Our objective is always to continue striving forward, therefore we are already planning for further success and a second successive promotion.”
More to follow.
