Belper Sports 3

Both newly promoted teams faced each other for the first time this season and it was Stanton who started off the better, racing into a two goal lead within the first eight minutes.

The first came when Jordan Wright beat his man on the wing and played the ball across for Taylor Bull to tap home.

Bull soon found himself running towards goal and giving the advancing keeper no chance as he dinked the ball into the Belper net for a second.

Stanton were cruising until the referee gave Belper a penalty which cut Stanton’s lead in the game.

But a two-goal advantage was soon restored as Stanton pushed forward with Connor Hodges hitting a ferocious shot into the roof of the net.

Belperthen got a second goal to make it 3-2.

With only seconds left to play in the first half , Domenico Galli’s shot beat the keeper and went in off the far post.

Belper scored midway through the second half to make it 4-3.

This didn’t faze Stanton as Wright started to terrorise Belper with his skill down the wing.

With not long left to play, Stanton got a corner and played it short to Wright who crossed a fantastic ball into the box, and, with Stanton players unable to connect, it fell to an unmarked Kieran Widdowson to pick his spot and fire home.

Roe Farm are a good side but seemed to be having an off day as Stanton played them off the field.

Stanton should have taken the lead, having been awarded a penalty in the first half, only to see the keeper save the shot.

So it ended goalless in the first half.

The second half started brightly for Stanton with a good passing move finding Connor Hodges, to place his shot past the keeper.

Unfortunately for Stanton, Roe Farm soon got a goal back. But Stanton battled away and a penalty claim was waved away. With not long to go, a draw would have been a fair result but Roe Farm smashed in a free kick to win it.
