Adams, 24, starred for Ilkeston FC as a teenager under the tutelage of Kevin Wilson in the Northern Premier League, before going on to be a huge success at Sheffield United, Birmingham City and in the Premier League with Southampton.

Having then opted to represent Scotland internationally due through a maternal grandparent, Adams received his first call-up last week and was then on target in his third game for his country, a 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Faroe Islands on Wednesday night at Hampden Park. He had previously featured against Austria as a substitute and made his full debut in Israel, both games being drawn.

Adams now has made over 250 professional appearances since leaving Ilkeston in 2014, including 58 in the Premier League for Southampton for whom he has scored 11 goals.
