Tim Hopkinson’s second-half goal earned Ilkeston Town another crucial three points in the Midland Football League Division One title race on Tuesday night as they beat Leicester Road 1-0.
The result maintained Ilkeston’s third place but moved them three points clear of their opponents and three points behind leaders Walsall Wood who still have a trio of games in hand.
The first-half saw few clear cut opportunities, Jamie Walker twice going close, once with an effort too high and another saved by keeper Hyland.
The second-half followed a similar pattern before the winning goal arrived midway through, Hopkinson finding space and then hitting a shot which was deflected on its way into the net.
Walker then forced Hyland into another save with a lob that was tipped over the bar, and despite late pressure from the home side it was the Robins who were able to hang on to claim the three points - revenge for a 3-1 reverse at the New Manor Ground earlier in the season.
They now prepare to visit Hinckley AFC on Saturday, another side in the top five.
