Ilkeston boss believes club are in a 'great place' thanks to the quality on show
Ilkeston boss Martin Carruthers believes the club are in a ‘great place’ thanks to the quality on show.
Carruthers is confident that everything is coming together nicely on and off the pitch as Town gear up for the new Northern Premier League campaign.
And he feels the recent addition of former Celtic star Kelvin Wilson in a coaching capacity provided another boost.
“The addition of Kelvin is a massive boost to everyone at the club, not only the owners and fans, but to the management and the players,” he said.
“When someone of his quality comes in and his pedigree you listen. He is a great guy, he is a humble guy and we will take on board ways that he can help us.
“To have played against two of the best players to have ever played the game in Ronaldo and Messi speaks volumes about the quality of Kelvin.
“The experience he will bring will certainly help to inspire the younger players we are looking to develop.
“He is an inspiration to those many youngsters we hope to see progress into professional football.
“Squad wise we are looking absolutely fantastic, we have just about completed our business, maybe one or two more may come in if they are of the right quality.
“In terms of the quality we have got now, we are in a very good place. We just need a starting date now to crack on.”
And Carruthers believes that the quality of facilities Ilkeston now have off the field will also help to drive up standards and results.
“The pitch is looking really good, a lot of time and effort has gone into developing it this season,” he added.
“We have got a really good playing surface to train on. The classrooms have been painted and decorated and the outside of the ground, seats and stands have been cleaned so it looks like a whole new place.
“All the barriers and new seats in the dugouts are going in, they are top of the range. The dressing rooms have air conditioning and underfloor heating.
“Any player coming to the club is going to be overawed with the quality of the set-up. “Hopefully that will go out onto the pitch because when you have great facilities it only inspires people.”
