Steve Chettle hailed Ilkeston Town’s efforts on and off the pitch after the 3-2 win over Racing Club Warwick on Saturday.
A good overall performance was watched by a crowd of 1,889 – a MFL Division One record – who witnessed Ilkeston go into a 3-0 lead before being pegged back late on.
And while Chettle wasn’t impressed by the way his side let Warwick back into the game, he praised his team for the victory.

He said: “For 88 minutes we were outstanding against a very decent side. I wasn’t happy with how the game ended and certainly vented my feelings to the players afterwards, but the main thing is that we got three points.
“At half-time we’d done really well to go in 2-0 ahead as it was a close game, then to get the third early on in the second-half should have been enough for us to win comfortably.
“I went to watch Warwick on Thursday and knew they were a good side but we had a game plan and stuck to it which was pleasing.
“It was a great day for the club with a fantastic crowd. If we can attract a good proportion of them back every week it’ll be fantastic.
“I told the players to play the game and not the occasion, and I felt they did that well.”
