Robins on the hunt for new academy stars

The search is underway for new recruits to the Ilkeston FC Academy – with some fantastic opportunities available for talented young footballers to launch a career in the game.

Football scholarships are on offer to school leavers and although it’s expected that most places will go to those who have already been attached to league clubs, the door is not closed to anyone.

Manager Kevin Wilson said: “We’ve been successful in the past in recruiting youngsters who have been involved with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Notts County and Chesterfield and have fallen just short of the standards required for them to become apprentices.

“We are realistic enough to know that we cannot expect to sign the cream of the crop - but we’re not looking for the end product.

“We want people who are keen to improve their education standards while working hard to develop themselves as footballers.

“We believe we that in less than two seasons, we’ve created a track record for discovering and developing young talent.

“Everyone knows about Tyrell Waite but four others - Ryan Wilson, Josh Wisdom, Scott Low and Andrew Osei-Sirbour - have also come out of the Academy to play in our first-team this season.

“We’ve already built a reputation within the game as a club that is trying to do things the right way. We set very high standards within the Academy in every respect and we are looking for players who will raise the bar still further.”
