Ilkeston FC have strengthened their relationship with Nottingham Forest by agreeing to play a pre-season friendly against the Championship club - and host their reserves at the New Manor Ground this season.

Steve McClaren’s Reds will travel to Ilkeston on Tuesday July 26 for a 7.30pm kick off and the Robins will be hoping the glamorous fixture attracts a crowd of more than 2,000.

Chairman Dave Mantle said: “We have developed a good relationship with Forest and when they approached us last week about the possibility of adding a game against us to their list of pre-season fixtures, we were more than happy to fit it in.”

Mantle has also been in negotiations for some time with Forest about staging Central League games at the New Manor Ground.

The arrangement worked well when Forest Reserves played three matches there last season, and Mantle added: “It’s a deal that suits both parties.

“Forest would prefer not to use the City Ground and as we have decided this season to play our midweek games on Monday evenings, it means we can accommodate them on a Tuesday or Wednesday. It will also provide us with a valuable source of income.”
