Rory Coleman joins Ilkeston FC
Prolifc goal-scoring defender Rory Coleman has joined Ilkeston FC from Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Coleman came through the youth ranks at Scunthorpe United and signed his first professional contract in 2008 when Nigel Adkins was in charge.
Coleman, who hit 21 goals for the Steels in last season’s campaign, spent three months on loan for Ilkeston in January 2009.
He said: “I remember the great set up of the club and I remember that the fans always got right behind the team, it was a very good club to be part of.
“It was great return on goals for me last season. I like to get forward and I think I’ve got a keen eye for goal, I like to get shots off and I’ve always been pretty good from a dead ball situation all the way through my career.”
After he left Scunthope, by his own admission, his career was a bit up and down.
He first moved to Gainsborough Trinity for one season, before going to Barrow for a short spell on trial.
It came to nothing and he then signed for Hinckley United in the Conference North.
Injuries kept him out of the game for a short while. A move to Goole to play for a former team Mate, Curtis Woodhouse would follow, he would then make the move to Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Rory played a part in both FA Trophy games between Ilkeston and Stocksbridge.
He said “I remember both games well, especially the first one. I still don’t know how the game was allowed to go ahead in that torrential rain. I cracked one of my ribs early on in the game, I managed to play on until half time, but had to come off.”
