An Ilkeston-based FootGolf team have set their sights high this season, after an encouraging first year.
Pewit FootGolf narrowly missed out on the UK finals day in their inaugural year but are hoping to go one better this time around.
Team captain Kenny Giddings, who helped initiate the team’s set up last year, believes the experience will stand them in good stead this time around.
The 33-year-old said: “We only had four or five players then and we were all just getting into the sport, so we did well considering the group we were in.
“You get drawn into groups against other teams from the local area and play each other twice like the Champions League format in football.
“The top two or three teams from each group go through to a finals day depending on the size of the group. Last year we just missed out, finishing third in a small group. Edwalton were in our group and they won it.
“Now we have kept that team together and added a year’s experience as well. We’re hoping to go one better this time around and qualify for the finals day.”
Giddings described the sport as “fun with a competitive edge” and said enjoyment is the main factor for all of his team’s players.
He hopes to build a ranking points this year with the FIFG (Federation for International FootGolf) World Cup taking place in December 2018 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
“We have some very good players on our team and in Derbyshire who have a very good chance of being out there in December. It should be an interesting year,” he added.
