Paul Holland says his side will have learned plenty from the 3-1 defeat to a young Leicester City side on Wednesday night.
Liam Hearn netted Ilkeston’s only goal after the Foxes had scored at each end of the first-half and early in the second, a crowd of 317 watching on.
And Holland was largely happy with what he saw.
He said: “Leicester have brought a very good set of players with them and it was a good test.
“I was disappointed with the sloppy goals we conceded but we can work on that.
“Everything we do is an extension of training at this stage and it’s all with a view to working towards the opening game on August 13.
“So we’ll keep working hard over the next few weeks and each game will present different challenges.”
Ilkeston are in action again on Thursday night with a match against Long Eaton United at the NMG before Notts County bring their first team to the New Manor Ground on Saturday.
