Ashley Hunter has become the latest Ilkeston FC player to earn a move into the Football League after agreeing a deal to sign for League One side Fleetwood Town.
Hunter, 18, has impressed since replacing Sheffield United-bound Che Adams in the Robins side in November, and his form has caught the eye of Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander.
An undisclosed fee has been paid to Ilkeston for Hunter’s services, with a sell-on clause also believed to have been included in the deal.
Hunter becomes the second player to sign for Fleetwood having appeared for Ilkeston this season, defender Joe Burgess having also moved to Lancashire having put in a fine display in his one and only Robins game at St Neots in the FA Trophy.
Ilkeston boss Kevin Wilson said: “We were made an offer that we simply couldn’t turn down so reluctantly we say goodbye to Ashley, but at the same time congratulate him on a great move into the Football League.
“He’s worked very hard since coming here in the summer and, as with the likes of Che Adams, Kieran Wallace, Ryan Wilson and Joe Burgess, you can’t deny these lads the opportunity to play at a higher level.”
Hunter is the seventh player to appear in an Ilkeston shirt this season before progressing to a higher level.
As well as Adams, Wallace, Wilson (who played in pre-season) and Burgess, Jake Mulraney is now at Premier League side QPR and Kane Richards is in the Conference Premier with Chester FC.
