Ilkeston FC have confirmed the signing of experienced striker Lee Hughes.
The 39-year-old has played over 650 games in professional football, scoring nearly 300 goals in the process, and signs after impressing in the Robins’ recent pre-season friendlies.
The former Coventry, West Bromwich Albion and Notts County man has opted to remain in full-time football with Ilkeston having played in the National League with Forest Green Rovers and Kidderminster Harriers last season.
Robins head coach Gavin Strachan said: “We have a young squad here at Ilkeston and Lee will add that bit of experience to the side and help guide the players on the pitch.
“My assistant Andy Watson and I know Lee from our respective careers and when we offered him the chance to come here and get some full-time training in during the summer he was keen to take us up on it.
“He’s done well in the friendlies and I’m pleased he’s agreed a deal to now play in the competitive games too. Although he’s 39 he is still very fit and will score goals for us.”
Ilkeston begin their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign at home to Skelmersdale United on Saturday.
