YOUNGSTERS from Ilkeston Swimming Club have once again shown they are among the best in the country with some commanding displays in both local and national competition.
They firstly took a squad to the Newburn open meet on Tyneside, and returned with 29 medals - including 39 personal best times.
Medal winners were:
Krissy Tomlinson (11yrs) - Four gold, four silver, one bronze; Jessica Laight (13yrs) - one gold, one bronze; Katie Sloan (10yrs) - three silver, one bronze; Cameron Halliday (12yrs) - one bronze and Connor Donson (14yrs) - two bronze
There were a total of 29 top six places among the rest of the squad who included Jessica Tomlinson, Daniel Sloan, Megan Lynham, Sophie Lynham, Emily Middleton, Ellie Smith and Florence, Edith and Mabel Knighton.
Coach Richard Tomlinson said: “It made for a great weekend with outstanding swims from all against tough swimmers from across the north of the country.
“The personal bests gained showed that the hard training had paid off with great results.”
A smaller squad of seven then competed in the Chesterfield open meet last weekend.
Again they showed their quality with 20 medals, including nine gold, 32 top six places and 40 personal best times.
Medallists were: Krissy Tomlinson (11yrs) - six gold, three silvers, one bronze and runner-up in the ‘top girl’ category; Katie Sloan (10yrs) - two gold, one silver and one bronze; Jessica Tomlinson (14yrs) - one gold, one bronze; Ben Saunders (13yrs) - one silver, three bronze; Rob Hudson (19yrs) - one bronze.
Also competing were Daniel Sloan and Kyle Hudson who both secured top six finishes.
Richard Tomlinson added: “All the swimmers produced personal best times in nearly every event they entered and swam outstandingly throughout the meet. We look forward to more success in the new season.”
