Long Eaton teams face each other

The third and final round of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Junior League saw Long Eaton Swimming Club’s A and B teams drawn in the same gala at Queens Street Leisure Centre in Derby.

The A team won 12 of the events, finishing in third place and missing out on second place by just one point.

The B team put in some tremendous performances and in some races finished ahead of the A team member.

Although finishing in fifth place, this team have shown great progress over the three rounds.

The first race of the night, the 14 and under medley relay, saw success for Matthew Cartwright, Joshua Beech, Joshua Bestwick and Sam Frearson and they also took the freestyle relay later in the evening.

Matthew and Joshua Beech completed a clean sweep in this age group with two wins each in the individual races.

Lana Dilks, Jennibel Hampson, Maddie Walker and Mimi Roberts were successful in the ten and under medley relay.

Nine-year-old Maddie Walker won her individual races in the 25 metres freestyle and backstroke. Also swimming in this age group, Lewis Tipping won the 25metres breaststroke.

Other individual winners were 11-year-old Katie Sloan in the 50 metres butterfly and freestyle and 12-year-old Krissy Tomlinson in the 50 metres backstroke and butterfly.
