MATCH PREVIEW: Ilkeston FC v Nantwich Town

Nantwich Town
Nantwich Town

Nantwich Town arrive at the New Manor Ground on Saturday in fine form and with a hatful of goals to their name so far this season.

The Dabbers lie second in the league having played 12 games, just a point behind leaders Blyth Spartans who have a game in hand.

Perhaps most ominously for a Ilkeston side that conceded four at Whitby last Saturday, Nantwich have scored a remarkable 41 goals in their opening 12 games, 13 more than anybody else in the division.

Their most recent result was a 7-1 hammering of bottom-of-the-table Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night, their Lancashire opponents not helped by having seen manager Jon Robinson depart the day before.

But there’s no question Nantwich boss Phil Parkinson has got his team firing. They put six past Stamford in August and a similar number past Grantham a fortnight ago, although they are not inpenetrable with 21 goals having been conceded in this campaign too.

So a tough test is certainly in store for Ilkeston who are without a win in eight games in all competions since the 4-3 win over Stourbridge on August 24.

Saturday, October 3, kick-off 3pm.
