Ilkeston will encounter the rarity of playing on an artificial 3G surface on Saturday as they travel to face Sutton Coldfield Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
Sutton Coldfield share their Coles Lane ground with Division One South side Romulus and Aston Villa Ladies, but with 3G pitches not suffering the same wear and tear as traditional turf, the number of matches played on it has little effect.
With many matches recently having been called off or played on boggy pitches due to the winter conditions, Saturday’s fixture should be exempt from any concerns given the all-weather nature of the pitch, although milder temperatures are forecast.
Ilkeston are looking for their first league win of 2016 having not picked up three points since beating Ramsbottom on December 5.
A 2-2 draw at Rushall Olympic on Tuesday night saw an encouraging display rewarded with just a point.
Sutton Coldfield sit 13th in the league, just one place below the Robins and on the same number of points. They’ve lost four times on their own patch this season.
Their most recent outing was on January 9 when they held Hyde United 0-0 at home. They are unbeaten in five league games, their last loss, similarly to Ilkeston, coming at Barwell on December 8.
Ilkeston last visited Sutton Coldfield Town in what was their first ever away league game in 2011 in Division One South. They fell to a 2-1 defeat, Daryll Thomas with the Ilkeston goal.
