Ilkeston Swimming Club sent 18 members to this year’s Rykneld Open Meet in Clay Cross and they returned with a large number of medals and personal best times.
There were seven gold medals in total, won by Lauren Booth (13 yr girls 100m IM), Mary Traynor (14 yr girls 100m free), Alisha Sanders (15yr girls 100m breast), Charlie Palmer (12 yr boys 100m IM and 100m free), Jake Elson (14 yr boys 100m fly) and Cameron Halliday (15 yr boys 100m breast)
Silver medals were won by Sophie King, Lauren Booth, Chelsea Sanders (x3), Jake Elson (x4) and Daniel King, while bronze medals went to Abigail Butterworth (x3), Mary Traynor, Alisha Sanders (x2), Jo Saunders (x2), Cameron Halliday (x2) and Daniel King (x4)
Also competing and putting in fine performances were Emily Middleton, Christel Draycott, Abigail Sloan, Shannen Sidoli, Mitchell Sanders and Liam Spencer, all of whom achieved top six finishes in at least one of their events.
Meanwhile, Ilkeston swimmer Shaney Bunce put in some excellent displays when attending the Disability Sports Events East Midlands Swimming Champinoships in Leicester.
Shaney, who has been swimming for the club for 13 years, claimed five bronze medals in total, in the 200m freestyle, 50m breast, 400m free, 100m breast and in the relay.
She also claimed fourth in the 100m back, fifth in the 50m back, seventh in the 100m free and ninth in the 50m free.
