Depleted squad swims well

The third and final round of this year’s Arena League found the Long Eaton Swimming Club’s A Team in action at Hucknall.

With many missing due to illness the swimmers who stepped up did an amazing job, battling all the way to finish third on the night.

Winning three out of four of the individual events for the 13-year-old girls were Elle Pryce, Megan Smart and Krissy Tomlinson who were then joined by Katie Sloan, swimming up an age group, to take both relays. Sloan won the butterfly and freestyle in her own age group, while Hannah Jones won in the 100m fly.

Long Eaton also hosted a gala at Mansfield where the B team werecompeting, although the knock-on effect from a depleted A team meant that several regular members of the B team went to Hucknall.

But Long Eaton still finished in a creditable third place, just six points behind the joint winners.

Individual winners were Erin Dilks and Kate Williamson (100m back), Elizabeth Simpson and Ryan Cendrowski (100m fly), Hannah Dowell (100m breast) and Imogen Marshall (100m free).

Dilks and Marshall were joined by Chloe Blaydon and Bethanie Dennis to take the 15 years and under freestyle relay, with Hannah replacing Imogen for the breaststroke leg to take the medley relay.

The Open Ladies team of Dowell, Williamson and Simpson were joined by Helen Akers to win the medley relay with Bethanie, Chloe and Erin swimming up with Helen, Kate and Hannah to take the penultimate event, the ladies 6x50m freestyle relay.
