The Derby College golf team claimed another first place in the recent Inter Collegiate Tour (ICT) Event, played at Lingdale Golf Club, to stay top of the ICT league.

The team of eight players, all part of the Performance Golf Academy Derby player training programme, which is based at Morley Hayes, won both the net and gross events to maintain their challenge to win both net and gross leagues and qualify for the National Finals at the Shropshire Golf Club, in early May.

Returning a gross total of 453 saw Derby one stroke clear of second-placed Solihull A and a net total of 433, two strokes clear of Solihull B.

Greg Tickell led the way for Derby College, shooting 73-0-73, with Sam Flannery 74-2-72, Niall Quinn Jarvis 75-1-74, Charley Mycock 76-6-70, Jake Conoley 77-5-72, Alex Harlow(Kedleston Park) 78-5-73, Will Painter (Kedleston Park) 78-3-75 and Jordan Barker (Kedleston Park) 80-4-76.

Academy programme director Nigel Furniss commented: “The team did their job today, which was to win both events to maintain our lead at the top of the leagues. It was a difficult day with snow and cold temperatures to deal with, but the team stuck to their task well for a deserved win.”

Derby College now top their regional group of both the ICT and ISGA tours.

The final league fixture takes place today (Wednesday) at Stonebridge Golf Club in Warwickshire.
