Ilkeston Outlaws have joined in with supporting Women’s Sport Week

The national campaign, lead by Women in Sport to celebrate, aims to raise awareness and increase the profile of women’s sport across the UK.

Some of the players from the senior women’s team attended the junior girl’s session to mentor and support the younger players.

The popular basketball club has a long history of a female section and hopes that campaigns like this will help raise the profile of female sport and allow the women’s section of the club to continue to grow.

Becci Carter, Junior girls coach, said: “It’s great to see the older female players helping out with the juniors.

“They are able to be a role model to the younger players and help them to develop their game. Campaigns like Women’s Sport Week are great to celebrate the amazing achievements of women in sport.”

The Outlaws female teams had a good season in 2014/15, with the senior women finishing in third place in both the Leicester League and Maid Marian League played in Nottingham.

The junior girls also finished in third place in the junior Maid Marion League.

Ilkeston Outlaws are always looking for new players to join the club, especially junior girls.

Players can visit or email for more information or girls can turn up at the junior session on Tuesdays 6-8pm at Rutland Sports Park.
