Sandiacre Town were left frustrated by Alvaston & Boulton in their Derbyshire County Cricket League Premier Division match on Saturday.
Dan Wheeldon’s side were put into bat by Alvaston but it didn’t knock them off their stride as openers Scott McNeill (69) and James Chapman (50) put on a first wicket stand of 131 runs.
Billy Godleman made 25, Daniel Birch 45 and Gareth Curtis an unbeaten 27 as the top order helped their side post a strong total for Alvaston to chase.
There was a notable third wicket stand of 63 in there as well which helped Sandiacre pass 200. And an unbeaten 24 from Bill Anderson at number eight, alongside Curtis, saw Sandiacre post 265-6 from 50 overs.
Chris Stevenson was the pick of the Alvaston bowlers with 5-61 from 13 overs.
And, while facing a daunting run chase, the reply got off to a steady start with opener Chris McIlroy making 59, Matt Arnold 14 before number three Shane Williams came and went cheaply for eight.
An unbeaten knock of 45 from Ahmed Raza helped to anchor the innings as he and skipper Rahim Ali (21*) were there at the end of their 50 overs for 202-6.
Sandiacre took a lion’s share of the points, 18, to remain top of the table, to Alvaston’s nine.
But it wasn’t as good news for Sandiacre seconds who suffered an eight-wicket loss to Derby Congregational in Division Two.
