Smalley’s Leon Haslam remains in pole position in the race to be crowned British Superbike Champion.

Haslam claimed a first and third place finish during the latest round in Assen.

It leaves him top of the standings on 612 points going into the final round at Brands Hatch on Oct 13-15.

And the rider knows he must now just keep that good form going to take the title.

“I had a plan for race one but Assen is one of those circuits where nothing normally goes to plan,” he said.

“I was happy sitting in third place then, with six laps to go, I decide to try and put some smooth laps together and hit my points and thankfully it workedout.

“In race two I was pushing hard and I was struggling a little for the first half of the race.

“I managed to find a good rhythm towards the end but we had a bit of an issue on the back straight when the engine cut out on me.

“A big thanks to everyoneat JG Speedfit Kawasaki, the boys have done really well this weekend.

“We’ve had a hard part of the season and when qualifying doesn’t go well or you’re generally having a bad weekend you can be down in seventh or eighth place but the Showdown is where it matters and so far so good.

“We’ve just got three more races to go to keep doing what we’re doing.”
