Masters Swimmers from Long Eaton Swimming Club travelled to Aldershot for their final meet of the season and for Rebecca Fox the journey was well worth it.
Rebecca achieved a long course British and European record in the 50m freestyle which had stood since the early nineties, and a British record in the 100m freestyle.
For Helen Akers and Elizabeth Simpson, who swim with Fox in the club’s senior squad, there were more gold medals in the 100m freestyle in their age groups, as well as in the 50m freestyle for Akers and in the 50m butterfly for Simpson.
Together with Laura Marinelli from the club’s masters squad, they took gold in both the medley and freestyle relays.
Lisa Tidman and Fiona Starbuck were swimming in their first Masters competition and Tidman achieved a gold medal in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 50m freestyle.
Starbuck then joined Tidman, Dave Akers and Colin Prescott to take bronze medals in both their relays.
Prescott won gold in both the 50 metres and 100 metre freestyle, while Maggi Tuck took silver in the 50m backstroke and freestyle and masters coach Dave Akers won the 50m breaststroke.
