Nutbrook go close in draw at Ockbrook

Nutbrook CC 1sts travelled to Ockbrook 2nds on Saturday missing Matt Wakefield and Chris Palfreyman for the Flint Bishop Division Two fixture.

Ockbrook won the toss and batted first, losing their first wicket in the second over when Danny Brooks bowled Birds.

Max Magann got opener Darlington LBW and there was then a stand of 40 for the third wicket when Rich Henshaw took a wicket to make the score 62-3. This soon became 67-4 when young Ben Grattan got his first wicket at this level when Rich Henshaw caught Mitchell for 13.

A fifth wicket stand of 33 took the score to 100 but skipper Steve Sanderson kept Ockbrook at bay, switching his bowlers to good effect. The sixth wicket fell at the same score when Henshaw got Ben Hall stumped by Andy Farmer for seven.

A seventh wicket stand of 52 ended when skipper Burrow was stumped by Farmer, again off the bowling of Henshaw to make it 152-7. Henshaw then took his first-ever hat-trick to finish with 5-47 as Ockbrook were dismissed for 156 in the 46th over.

Nutbrook set off at a cracking pace, putting 38 on the board before Dan Brooks was bowled for24. 11 runs later stand-in opener Dan Lever w as out for nine.

Brooks’s downfall came when Ockbrook put the spinners on.

49-2 soon became 98-6 with Max Magann getting 24 and Steve Sanderson 27.

It looked bad for the Brook until a seventh-wicket stand of 32 ended when Steve Sanderson holed out to the bowling of wharton for 27 to make it 130-7 in the 41st over.

Young James Woods joined Andy Farmer and they got to the last over before Farmer was out for 19, leaving james not out on two and the game drawn with Nutbrook ended on 144-8. Nutbrook took 11 points from the game.
