Sports coaches in the Amber Valley area are being invited to attend the Derbyshire Sport Coaches’ Conference, where two-time Olympian Matthew Syed will be the guest speaker.
Organised by Derbyshire Sport and sponsored by Derby College and Derbyshire County Council, the conference is aimed at sports coaches who are working with talented athletes or who have an interest in sports science and athlete development.
Former table tennis player Matthew Syed, who competed for Great Britain at the 1992 and 2000 Olympic Games, will give the opening keynote speech at the event, which will be held at Derby College in Derby on Sunday, May 19.
Matthew, who is now a journalist, broadcaster and author of the book Bounce, will talk about performance, strategy and mindset, and what it takes to be the best.
A range of 19 workshops, seminars and masterclasses will also be on offer, giving coaches the opportunity to learn from world class experts in their fields covering subjects such as nutrition, strength and conditioning, injury prevention and
maintaining a sport/life balance.
Derbyshire Sport Coach and Club Development Officer Suzanne Watson said: “This will be the second annual Derbyshire Sport Coaches’ Conference. Last year the conference attracted 83 coaches and this year it will be even bigger and better as there are 200 delegate places available.
“We are really pleased and excited to have such a great team of speakers and workshop leaders lined up and the day will be a great opportunity for coaches in Derbyshire to learn from experts in their field and also to network with each other and to share ideas.”
The cost for the day, including lunch and refreshments, is £40 (Including VAT) for coaches living in Derbyshire, and £60 for coaches from outside of the county.
