Ilkeston FC secured the first of their key signings of the summer this week as popular left-sided player James Reid agreed a new contract.
Reid, who played for England at under-18 and under-19 level, has been a fans favourite since arriving at the New Manor Ground in November 2011, playing either as a winger, central midfielder or most recently in the left wing-back role.
And now the 24-year-old has ended any doubts as to whether he may move away from Ilkeston by committing to the club for next season.
Robins boss Kevin Wilson said: “Reidy has been with the club virtually from the start so it’s great to have agreed a new deal with him.
“He’s worked really hard on his fitness and has also enjoyed being one of the more experienced players in the team, which I think has been reflected in his performances.
“His versatility is a great asset to us. It’s important he doesn’t get complacent now he’s earned a new deal as we’ll still be looking at players in allpositions during the summer, but he’s one of our key players and I’m delighted he’s signed.”
Wilson says he is waiting on several players to return from holiday before discussing new deals ahead of pre-season training which will begin next Thursday.
He added: “Things are still a bit quiet but we’re looking forward to getting everyone back ahead of the first friendlies.”
