A TEENAGER from West Hallam has become Derbyshire County Champion in her age group for the fourth year running.
Rhianna Sheehan, 13, is a pupil at Ockbrook School and competes for City of Derby Swimming Club where she is coached by double Olympian Melanie Marshall.
Rhianna won seven gold medals and five silvers during the individual events and a further four golds in the relays at this year’s championships, spread over three weekends in February and March.
Last year at the County Championships she won 19 golds and one silver, and she has achieved 11 qualifying times for the Midlands Championships to be held in June.
Rhianna’s mum Andrea said: “Her success this year is all the more remarkable because she had an operation on her foot in December and has only just recovered from this after having an infection in her wound.
“She is hoping to qualify for the National Championship for the second year running and is only one second off achieving this in the 400m freestyle and very close in the 800m freestyle too.”
