Ilkeston FC striker Rai Simons has signed for League One promotion-hopefuls Chesterfield.
The 19-year-old Bermudan international has progressed through the Robins’ academy setup and becomes the sixth player to appear for Ilkeston this season who has earned a move into the Football League after Che Adams, Kieran Wallace (both Sheffield United), Ashley Hunter, Akil Wright (both Fleetwood) and Jake Mulraney (QPR)
Simons signed a two-year deal at the Proact Stadium and is expected to join up with Paul Cook’s squad in the summer after finishing the current season with Ilkeston, who are aiming for promotion to the newly-named Vanarama National League North.
He told the Spireites’ official website: “I’m excited because I’ve been looking forward to this moment since moving to England at the age of 15.
“The setup sounds brilliant and it is everything I could ask for.”
