Shipley Park event gets Inspire mark

The Jog Derbyshire 5k has been granted the Inspire mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme.

The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Jog Derbyshire 5k, which will be held at Shipley Country Park on September 4, is playing its part in the legacy from London 2012 by encouraging more people to become more active and providing an introductory event for people who are new to jogging to take part in.

Derbyshire Paralympian and London 2012 hopeful Leon Taylor will start the race, and as part of the event there will be a number of sporting activities and demonstrations including blind football, boccia, sitting volleyball and cricket.

Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: “The Inspire programme is ensuring the legacy of the 2012 Games starts now as projects like the Jog Derbyshire 5k are enabling people in Derbyshire to make positive life changes.”

The 5k is open to all and is particularly aimed at those who are new or returning to running, and those who are looking to take part in their first organised race or are looking for a new challenge after taking part in an event such as Race for Life.

Entrants can walk, jog or run the 5k, which is a scenic off-road route which follows tracks and trails around Shipley Country Park.

This year’s 5k at Shipley Country Park will also incorporate the Active Derbyshire Workplace Challenge, which is open to work-based teams of four.

Jog Derbyshire Co-ordinator Tom Crampton said: “We are thrilled that the Jog Derbyshire 5k has been awarded the Inspire mark, it is fantastic to be recognised as a part of the legacy that London 2012 will bring.

“With the Olympics and Paralympics just a year away, the Jog Derbyshire 5k is the perfect outlet for people who are being inspired to become more active.”

The 5k will start at 10.30am on Sunday, September 4 and will be chip-timed, with a memento for all finishers.

Entries cost £5 for Jog Derbyshire Dynamos club members, and £6 for other individuals. Workplace team entry is £25 per team.
