Ilkeston FC have made it through to the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup after beating Nuneaton Town at the New Manor Ground on Monday night.
Luke Shaw put the Robins ahead from the penalty spot on 13 minutes and the hosts missed several good chances to go further in front before half-time.
The second goal came 11 minutes from time when Karum Shankar slotted home to seal the victory.
A jubilant boss Kevin Wilson told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted for the kids, it’s a great result and we should have won by more.
“They’ve done incredibly well to get through all the preliminary rounds and make it to where they are now and they fully deserve to be in the first round proper. It’s great for the football club in general.
“Now we’ve got to try and cause an upset by beating a Football League team, but we are capable of doing that and I think that if we have a good day, who knows what could happen?
“All credit to the boys, we’ve created chance after chance and maybe we have to be a bit more clinical in the box.”
The Robins are now set to face Wilson’s former club Northampton Town in the next round at the New Manor Ground, with the date yet to be confirmed.
Should they win that tie then they will face either Accrington Stanley or Carlisle in round two, with Premier League or Championship sides being possible opponents in round three if they progress.
