Sandiacre Town CC 1sts produced a dominant display on Saturday to beat Ticknall in the Derbyshire Premier Cricket League.

At the start of play, Ticknall were sitting pretty in joint top position with Sandiacre in fourth, but they made short work of their high-flying opponents.

Skipper Daniel Wheeldon won the toss for Sandiacre at Longmoor Lane and invited the visitors to bat first in sunny conditions.

Paul Borrington, recently restored to the Derbyshire first team at the top of the order, got off to a confident start and eventually made 28.

That this proved to be the top score of the innings shows just how dominant was the display by Town’s bowlers on the day.

Only two other batsmen made it into double figures as Ticknall were eventually bowled out for just 96 in the 40th over.

For Sandiacre, the bowling unit was strong throughout with Ryan McFadyean taking 2-23, Marius Conway-Jones 3-19 and John Jordison the star performer with figures of 5-17 off 13 overs.

When it came to their reply, managed to score at a healthy rate of four runs per over and got home with plenty of time to spare, losing only one wicket along the way.

James Chapman and Mitch McCann gave their side the perfect start with an opening stand of 67.

McCann departed for 22 but Oliver Swann kept Chapman company until the end with 15 not out.

Chapman ended with a fine 51 not out from 63 balls, an innings that feature four fours.

The 22 points earned from the game have moved Sandiacre up to second in the table, 13 points behind the new leaders Ockbrook and Borrowash.

On Saturday, Sandiacre Town take the trip south to Staffordshire to take on Dunstall at their picturesque Deer Park ground.

There was also good news for Sandiacre’s second XI, as they completed a nailbiting victory on Saturday against Tutbury by the narrow margin of just one wicket.

The Division Two game at Tutbury saw the visitors win the toss and decide to bowl first.

Anthony Taylor followed up his four wickets last week with another key bowling performance at Tutbury Mill, eventually recording excellent figures of 6-27 as the home side were dismissed for 121 in the 30th over.

Then it was Sandiacre’s turn with the bat and they also found the going tough.

Star performer was Ben Ruhrmund with a crucial knock of 48.

In the end, Town got home by just one wicket with the winning runs being scored in the 33rd over, the score being 125-9 at the end of the match.

Town have moved up to ninth in the table.

This Saturday, they are at home to Rolls-Royce Leisure.

Finally, Sandiacre’s third XI were in Division Five North action with a game at home to Ashover, which they lost by six wickets.

Sandiacre won the toss, batted first and scored 183-8 in 46 overs.

Matthew Pavis was again among the runs for Sandiacre with a score of 56.

Ashover then replied with 186-4 in 40.1 overs to win the game by six wickets.

Sandiacre are now ninth in the division after five games of the season.

On Saturday, they are away to Darley Abbey.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the firsts were in ECB National Club Championship Group 3 Quarter Final action and secured a 79-run victory over Plumtree.

Sandiacre lost the toss, batted first, and compiled 22-9 from their 45 overs.
