The Musings of an Ilson Fan: Robins rollercoaster ride!

Robins fan Wayne Morledge on the latest goings on at the New Manor Ground.

This season is sure turning into a rollercoaster ride for us Ilkeston fans.

In the space of just over a week we have seen the team snatch a last minute equaliser from the penalty spot against Halesowen, destroy FC United of Manchester with a master class in counter-attacking football and then get stuffed away at Kings Lynn.

There’s no doubting that Kevin’s young side have the talent and the skill, anyone who witnessed Saturday’s fantastic game would agree, but now comes the hard bit. What the team must start doing is getting some consistency. Of course this applies to every team in every sport but with such a young team there seems to be big contrasting differences.

We are either brilliant or we are awful. Thankfully, on the whole, it’s been mainly the former but if the balance swings the other way then it could be really hard to set it right.

If there’s one guarantee though it’s that we can trust in Kevin to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Saturday was the highlight of the season for me. FC United always bring a large and loud following and they usually also bring a very good footballing team.

Three deadly strikes within a 13 minute scoring spree though ensured that we claimed all three points and it was the home fans that ended up singing the loudest. It’s games like this that make you glad to be on this fairground ride that is Ilkeston FC.
