The Matlock Storytelling Cafe is proud to present The Battle of the Trees, on Friday, November 7.

A storm rages; a child is born; an ancient secret uncovered. Somewhere, an army of trees begin to march…

The mesmeric Christine Cooper tells a twisted web of tangled stories, with the mysterious Welsh poem that inspired Tolkien and Shakespeare at its centre.

The loss of millions of trees in the 1987 storm, an archaeological dig on a remote beach, the poet Robert Graves in a frenzy of inspiration, and Christine’s own family story are drawn together through moments of startling coincidence. The crime of the warrior chief Amaethon echoes down the centuries, and a voice speaks the words: I am Taliesin.

Audiences have been raving about this show as it has toured the British Isles.

Tickets cost £7 and can be bought by calling the Storytelling Cafe on 01629 58002, or you can pay on the door.

Delicious cakes and savoury snacks will be available. Bring your own bottle.

The café is in The Imperial Rooms, Matlock.

Doors open at 6.45pm, and the show begins at 7.30pm.
