MORE than 20 DJs will take to the decks at an all-day fundraising event in memory of popular Ilkeston entertainer Alan ‘Big Al’ Parkes this weekend.
The life of the legendary DJ and record shop owner, who died in July aged 48, will be celebrated at the event at the Sir John Warren pub on Sunday.
There will be a chance to bid for Alan’s Shure SM58 microphone and headphones and a gold disc presented to him by band M People, which hung in the former Big Al’s Records store in South Street, with all proceeds going to Alan’s three children Lorna, 10, Grant, 15 and Greg, 19.
Also, during the event, which runs from 3pm until 12midnight, money will be raised for the British Heart Foundation at a charity raffle. Anyone who wants to donate items should drop them off at the Market Place pub before Sunday.
