If music be the food of love, then the Glebe Field Centre in Crich is the place to be on Valentine’s night for a concert by Amadou Diagne and Yakar.

Senegalese multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Amadou Diagne and his UK based band Yakar have been developing a style that is uniquely their own.

It infuses Afro-beat to blues, jazz, funk, traditional West African singing and rock.

Members of the band have played at the likes of Glastonbury, the London Olympic Games, Montreux Jazz Festival, Notting Hill Carnival, Hammersmith Apollo, and have made many TV and radio appearances world-wide.

The five-piece band presents a colourful and energetic show featuring a mix of self-penned songs and traditional music from Senegal.

Amadou sings soulful, blues numbers delivered with an honest intensity that reflects on the joys and hardships of life.

Most of the music and songs are composed by Amadou, and you can expect to hear some traditional West African songs too.

The words are sung in English, French, and Amadou’s native language, Wolof, and there are lots of strong rhythms through the music reflecting Amadou’s background as an accomplished percussionist.

The concert is on Sunday, February 14 at 7.30pm and tickets are £12 (£8.50 ages eight to 16) on the door or £10 (£7) in advance on from David Lane on 01773 853260 or www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/101110
