A male dance group from Derby-based Déda, one of the UK’s leading dance centres, has won a place in the regional finals of a national youth dance competition.

Liquid dance group will be representing the county in the Midlands stage of U.Dance competition, a national performance framework for young people’s dance, led by Youth Dance England, held at Nottingham Playhouse on April 20.

The ten-strong Liquid dance group is made up of young male dancers aged ten to 17, who train as part of Déda’s youth academy programme at the studios in Chapel Street.

They won the Interface 13 county competition held recently at Derby Theatre – performing their original contemporary dance piece Contained – depicting a world threatened by a deadly disease and fighting to overcome it, which was choreographed by Déda’s dance artist Chris Caffery.

The judging panel, made up of local and regional dance professionals, chose Liquid as the competition winners from a line up of 17 school and youth groups from across the county to go through to the Midlands’ final at the ‘My Dance’ festival in Nottingham.

Liquid will perform alongside ten groups from across the region.
