THE grandmother of an Ilkeston pupil has been thanked for donating an electric piano to her granddaughter’s school during a special visit.

Sally Walker won the piano from Heart FM last year as part of Casio’s Pianos for Schools’ initiative which offered 66 pianos to schools across the UK.

As a result of the competition, Field House Infants School, has now begun offering a six-week course of piano lessons for year two pupils to give them a taste of playing the musical instrument.

Pupils who want to take the lessons further can do so and to say thank you to Mrs Walker they gave her a special look around the taster sessions which her grandaughter Millie Dore is now taking part in.

The school’s business manager Lorraine Gillott said: “It is amazing how quickly the pupils pick it up. They really enjoy it.”
