RISING local band Dreaded Monkey have organised a charity event that will be held on Saturday.
The Bands Wanted gig will be held at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Kimberley, with a large portion of the night’s proceeds going to church funds.
The event is being viewed as a pilot and, with support from the local community, bands and music lovers, the four lads in Dreaded Monkey, who came from Kimberley, Ilkeston, Arnold and Heanor, hope it will become a monthly occurrence showcasing a wide selection local band.
Tom from the band explained: “We had the idea months ago to do a local gig for local people with local people involved, but until now we never found a way to do this.
Our big idea is to organise a charity event showcasing some of the local musical talent and also support the local church.”
He went on: “We have four great bands lined up for the first event, including ourselves, and we are hoping that this will be the start of a new era of live local music. We are strongly urging any local bands, artists and musicians to contact us about playing the event in the future.”
Doors open at 6.30pm on Saturday and the Bands Wanted event starts at 7pm. The line-up consists of local outfits The Chase, A Traditional Goodbye, The Lawsons plus Dreaded Monkey.
There will be a small charge of £1 on the door and soft drinks will also be available. There is no age limit for the event and all are welcome.
Interested bands are asked to contact Dreaded Monkey via email at Dreadedmonkey9@ntlworld.com. More information can also be found at www.myspace.com/dreadedmonkey9.
