The centenary celebrations for Benjamin Britten are bringing plenty of opportunity for local fans of the British composer to hear his works performed.
On Sunday, November 17, The VoiceBox, based on Forman Street in Derby, hosts an event called Singing Britten, from 3pm.
Voicebox soloists, plus Voices, Choralchemy choirs and pianist Richard Hodges will perform Britten songs including folk song arrangements and extracts from A Ceremony Of Carols. For more information, you can go to www.voiceboxuk.com
Then, on Wednesday, November 20, the BBC Philarmonic return to the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham for a Discovering Britten concert, starting at 7.30pm.
Presented by BBC Radio Three’s Stephen Johnson, the concert features three Britten works - the Suite from Coronation opera Gloriana, the Passacaglia from his breakthrough opera Peter Grimes and the Sinfonia Da Requiem.
The concert is an accessible guide to the composer’s music, with live orchestral extracts, followed by complete performances of all three works. For ticket details, contact 0115 9895555.
