GERMAINE Greer brings her show Shakepeare’s Wife to Derby Theatre on Wednesday, January 25, from 7.30pm.
The well-known writer and academic is a familiar figure on our TV screens and combines literary-historical techniques with documentary evidence about life in Stratford in an attempt to put Shakespeare’s marriage into its social context.
Little is known of England’s greatest playwright and a great deal – none of it complimentary – has been assumed. The omission of her name from Shakespeare’s will has been interpreted as evidence she was a mistake from whom he did well to distance himself.
The show will be followed by a Q&A session, covering many subjects from Germaine Greer’s diverse, illustrious and long career.
Tickets are £14 (concessions are £12). Call the box office on 01332 255800.
